Chief Technology Officer

The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) reports to the CEO and is responsible for establishing the company’s technical vision and leading all aspects of the company’s technology development. The CTO is the company top technology executive, part of the Management Team, and plays an integral role in the company’s strategic direction, development, and future growth. You must be a pragmatic, passionate leader with technical vision, excellent people management skills and who can drive product innovation with a strong commercial view.

In this role you translate business needs into smart product solutions, build multi-discipline high performance teams and you will create a state-of-the-art technical environment. It’s a hands-on role requiring a leader who has passion for innovation and can bring his team to the next level. You like to be involved in the technical stuff, but meanwhile are able to evangelise the company product and technical strategy to all stakeholders including the shareholders.
 

The key responsibilities are:

• Lead the execution of technology & product strategy;
• Provide visible leadership for the company within the technology & product community;
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of technology standards, industry trends, emerging technologies, and software development best practices and anticipate and react to major technology changes to ensure the maintenance of company leadership in the competitive landscape;
• Build and manage a top-flight technology team (mix of internal and external) and oversee research and development, as well as project management;
• Technical standards and adherence to them for product development and company operations;
• A governance process that meets applicable laws, and expectations for privacy, security, and social responsibility;
• Development and execution of an enterprise-wide information security plan that protects the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the company’s data and servers;
• Development and execution of an enterprise-wide disaster recovery and business continuity plan;
• Communicate the company’s technology strategy to investors, management, staff, partners, customers, and stakeholders;
• Develop, track, and control the development and deployment of annual budgets;
• Ensure company technical problems are resolved in a timely and cost-effective manner.

Qualifications

1. University degree in the field of computer science.
2. Fluency in English.
3. A good mix, but not necessarily all of the following:

Experience

• Delivering online services to business and audiences;
• Operating in a product management led environment;
• Experienced practitioner in modern development approaches - agile/scrum/lean/kanban/lean startup;
• Operating in an early stage/high growth environment.

Skills/knowledge

• Front-end web and mobile technologies and back-end APIs;
• Digital marketing, ecommerce and web analytics; 
• Good understanding of modern engineering practices- test/behaviour driven development, continuous integration, test automation, frequent/continuous deployment, virtual and cloud-based services, automated provisioning and scaling.
