VP Mobile Access KPN

Within TDO Network, the Mobile Access unit is responsible for innovating, building and operating KPN's radio and antenna network. This network consists of more than 5,300 sites in the Netherlands and connects more than eight million customers every day. Together with more than 100 enthusiastic colleagues, we ensure that KPN's mobile network is the #1 network in the Netherlands.

The Mobile Access unit consists of four departments that are responsible for the technology, build and quality of the mobile access network. The lease agreements of all the mobile sites are also managed within the unit. In close collaboration with various suppliers, the people of Mobile Access ensure that KPN's mobile network is one of the best networks in the world.

VP Mobile Access

The Vice President Mobile Access is responsible for KPN's radio and antenna network. He/she is responsible for the strategy, innovation and operation of the network. The goal is to keep the network one of the best networks in the world. With the arrival of the 3.5 GHz frequency, KPN will be steadily expanding its mobile network in the coming years. The VP Mobile Access determines where investments are made and tries to create as much value as possible for KPNs customers. In addition to targeted expansion of the network, the VP Mobile Access is responsible for stable and excellent operation of the network. Availability of the network is paramount and the challenge is to optimize the performance of the network within the limits of the hardware and software.

The organization consists of approximately 100 professionals with a passion for mobile networking. Workforce transformation is an important topic. This implies that the organization needs to be led through a transformation where culture, operating model and technical knowledge should be well aligned.

 

The position

The VP Mobile Access plays a key role in the success of the overall mobile business of KPN. He/she drives the Mobile Access network of KPN as well as the organization operating the network.

The role of VP Mobile Access is multi-dimensional. Alongside technical knowledge, excellent stakeholder management, strong communication and financial knowledge are required to successfully fulfill the role.

Main accountabilities

• Develop a long term strategy for the mobile access network of KPN, that will keep KPN network the most reliable mobile network in the country and amongst the best in the world.
• Translate long term strategy into annual business plans and develop different investment scenarios that can be decided upon by the board of management.
• Develop new 5G networking technologies by engaging with vendors, industry standardization bodies and peer-groups within KPN.
• Cooperate with KPN business market in defining the indoor products that will be placed at business customers of KPN (SMS, LCE and System Integrator)
• Implement legislation from the government on security in the mobile network
• Reduce operational expenses of the network (wages, leases, contracts and energy) yearly with approximately 5%
• Represent the mobile network of KPN in case of spectrum auctions, participate in the auction team and advice the board on auction scenarios.
• Lead the workforce transformation within Mobile Access to an inclusive work environment that is well equipped to implement the next generation of mobile technology (i.e. 6G)

 

You bring

For the position of VP Mobile Access we are looking for a thought leader in the area of mobile networking that has the competence to translate strategy into execution and the ability inspire people based on content. The most important requirements are the following:

• 10+ years of telecommunication experience, preferably in mobile networking;
• A Master’s degree in IT or Telecommunications;
• Strong leadership skills both on people (workforce transformation) and technology (thought leadership)
• Fluent in English;
• Extensive experience in stakeholder management within large corporate enterprises;
• Experience with corporate finance, contract negotiations and vendor management;
• Ability to work with C-level executives.
